Gene Holmberg served in the US Marine Corps for 22 years. He enlisted in 1951 and served in Korea as an aviation radio repairman. After returning to the U.S. he was trained as an Airborne Intercept Operator. As a Staff Sergeant AIO he flew in the Douglas F3D Skyknight in Korea. In 1962 he joined the first F4B Phantom squadron, VMFA-314. In the U.S. and Vietnam he accrued over 2000 flight hours in this aircraft. He later served as a MAWTUPac instructor at MCAS El Toro, CA and retired in 1973 as a Captain.
He joined Grumman Aircraft and with his family spent 3 years in Isfahan, Iran as an F-14 Tomcat instructor for the Imperial Iranian Air Force. Returning from Iran he joined Hughes Aircraft as chief flight test radar operator and later transfered into Hughes marketing.
Gene is now somewhat retired with his wife, Jan. They make their home in southern California, when they're not racking up frequent flyer miles visiting those parts of the world they somehow missed on the first try.
